Safety Locks for Children
Getting safety locks for children on your car is a very important thing to do for a parent with a new born or young child, just like getting a proper child seat. Not only will it protect your child from danger whilst you are driving but it will also protect you. If you are driving a car without safety locks installed and you have a young and curious child in the back seat you are going to be constantly distracted by the thought of your child trying to open the car door whilst you are driving. This is likely to keep your eyes off the road and on your child instead.
Although your child's safety may be in your heart this behaviour can sometimes lead to your child being in more danger because it increases the likelihood of a car crash. This would not only hurt your child but is very likely to damage you as well. So getting safety locks for children in your car is definitely worth doing for your own sake as well as that of your child's. Almost all modern cars have these sorts of safety child locks already installed onto their rear doors nowadays, so if you have a relatively new car you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
How the Locks Work
The way the lock works is simple but effective. You usually will have a trigger or button on either the car door or by your ignition key which will activate the child locks. Ideally you want the trigger by your ignition key as sometimes someone can accidentally turn the child locks off if the trigger is located by the car handle. When you turn the trigger on it will engage a mechanism on your car doors which prevent them from being opened from the inside. The only way someone will be able to open the car door is by opening the door from the outside. With these safety locks you can be confident that your child is not going to be harmed and you can focus more on the road and the other things around you.
Get a New Family Car
If you own an old car which has not got safety locks for children installed you are going to be in a tricky situation. Some cars will have the capacity to have these locks installed onto them by a mechanic at a garage, but installing these sorts of locks on other old cars can be very difficult. This is because the model of certain old cars may dictate that you cannot fit or install a car safety lock onto the car doors. In these cases you may have to get a specialist lock installed to get your car safety up to scratch. Conversely if the car is that old and you have a new born child perhaps it is time to upgrade to a new car which is family friendly? By doing this you can get the safety locks and make sure you have enough room to be able to fit you and young children into your car without any hassle.
Obviously this alternative is going to be a lot more expensive than getting safety locks for children installed on a car and if you feel as though your current car is big enough for you and your family perhaps getting an installation is the way to go. When getting locks installed try and compare the market to get a wide range of prices. Garages nowadays are notorious for ripping people off, so try and make sure you are not duped into paying more than you should have to.
