Useful Tools for the Garage
As a car owner it is always very handy to be able to have a few bits and bobs that you can use to improve or repair your car at your disposal. Everyone from teenagers to drivers who are new moms who runs into a bit of car trouble every now and again doesn't want to always have to go running to a car mechanic and pay out money to have some very basic things sorted. There are few basics that every car owner must have if they want to be able to drive and run their car legally in the UK.
Tyre Tread Depth Gauge
A key one of these tools is a tyre gauge which you will need to use on a semi regular basis on each of the tyres on your car. UK law requires you to have a certain amount of tread depth on your tyres and as you drive around the roads of England you will be unintentionally wearying down your tyres more and more. If you find you are turning corners a lot harder than you were before or sliding around the road, no need to go straight to a mechanic, firstly check your tyres tread depth. The way you do this is with a tyre gauge which you can use to check how deep the tread depth on each of your tyres is. If it does not meet the UK legal minimum it is time for you to change your tyres.
There are a few basic tools that everyone needs to have if they want to change the tyres on their car. These tools are things like a jack, a lug wrench, and of course a few spare tyres. With the use of these tools you will have most of the equipment needed to successfully change a tyre. Some models of cars require additional equipment such as a wheel lock, or alignment studs, but these differ from one model to the next.
Engine Oil
Another key thing to have in your garage is of course a full engine oil container. Engine oil is something which many drivers forget all about, but it is one of the most important things needed for your car. This smelly and sticky substance is so important because without a fairly regular supply of it, a completely healthy and functioning car could be totally written off in a matter of days. You will always know when your car needs some more engine oil because a small red light we come on that indicates that the engine oil is running low. Although most cars turn this light on some time before the oil starts to get dangerously low it is important to do this job straight away because if you put it off too much you could find yourself breaking down suddenly.
Another helpful tool to have in your garage is a scratch kit. If you get into a little accident you can reduce the signs of scratching using a car scratch kit. This kit will include some cream and a cloth that you can use to wipe down the scratched area of your car.
This will minimise the visibility of the scratches on your car making them a lot less noticeable. These useful tools for the garage can be taken up by anyone who owns or takes care of a car. You don't need to have any expertise in mechanics or car engineering to use or understand these simple tools and they are a great way of keeping your car ticking over and looking good.
